Doggie Treat

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this here before but we have been looking for our first dog for the last several weeks. We have read a few good books about choosing dogs (e.g. The Good, The Bad and The Furry) and we have been scouring the local animal shelters, visiting with all sorts of canine creatures.

Yesterday when I got home from work, I was pleasantly surprised to see a dog there! My wife brought him home from a local animal shelter yesterday. We are going to foster it for a few days and then we might commit if none of us turn out to be allergic. His name is Milo and he is a 3 year old Beagle crossed with a Jack Russell. You might think that would make him incorrigible but he is very quiet (barked once in 24 hours) and very well behaved. We love him so far. He's a nose with four legs!

You're probably wondering what he was doing at the animal shelter if he's such a great dog. Well, his original owners had a baby a few months and finally came to the conclusion that the baby was allergic. Judging from the dog's obedient and loving behavior, I'm certain that story is true. I do feel sad for the old family.

On the exercise front, our swim club is currently on hiatus until mid-September when we move back to the indoor pool. In the meantime, I have been doing some light strength training (mostly hips and shoulders) to get ready for the new season. Any running? Nope. My knee is still bothering me, although it is gradually (very gradually) getting better.

I imagine that the previous owners would be thrilled to know that such a great family is taking care of their dog.

We've always gotten shelter dogs and always had great results. Best part is they come house trained! Gotta love that.

I hope that Milo works out!

My most beloved dog came from an animal shelter. She passed shortly after I started college. I haven't had another since. I miss her still.

I hope no one turns out to be allergic so that you can keep him. :)

I'm sorry that your knee is still bothering you. Hopefully, you'll be running again soon.

It must be the beagle in him that makes him so lovable. We had a Jack Russell that, while cute, was so hyper he became legendary in owner circles for his dastardly deeds.
